Take Action

Here are a few things supporters of interior design registration can do to help seek the successful passage of HB2256 and SB865.

  1. Sign MIC's online petition
  2. Call or Send MIDC's template letter, ASID's capital connection template letter or a personal letter to both your legislators to inform them of the 3 bills which have been filed to regulate the interior design profession. Provide them a copy of MIDC's briefing materials to educate them on the differences of each bill. Be sure to inform your legislator that you live in their district and that you are requesting their support for interior design registration. Request your legislators speak with the sponsor(s) of the bill to indicate their support as well.
  3. Inform colleagues, family and friends living in MA about the 3 bills and request they too contact their legislators in support of interior design registration.
  4. Contact MIDC to indicate your interest in participating in upcoming meet and greets.
  5. Become a MIDC member or Partner.
  6. Contribute to MIDC's annual fund.
  7. Become a MIDC board or committee member.

Educating the public about the ID profession:

Interior design is more than just decorating

If you have read the Boston Herald on December 20 th 2006 “Rep ought to trim the fat” or had listened to FOX25 nightly news at 10 on February 7 th , 2007 you have seen how the local media is beginning to relay the misconception that interior designers are decorators. A myth that is only reinforced by National TV shows which highlight “interior design” as those who make a space pretty. As this legislative session begins we urge all designers, industry members and clients of interior designers to outreach to the local media and industry magazines to submit letters regarding the interior design profession and the services they provide that effect the health, safety and well being of the public.
